Ummm... why do you need one? Aren't you capable of creating your own purpose for your life?
As for what would be here... depends on what happened during the last great extinction (the end of the dinosaurs) and whether that happened or not.
If the last great extinction didn't happen, then mammals would never have taken over that niche left by the dinosaurs and there would probably be a dinosaur variant alive today. Many scientists suspect that one of the raptors (they were very intelligent) would probably have developed into the dominant species.
However, if the great extinction did still happen and the dinosaurs died out, and a primate hadn't developed into the dominant species on the planet, it's difficult to tell what would have become the dominant species. It would likely be a descendant of a carnivore of some sort since carnivores are more intelligent than herbivores by neccesity (it takes intelligence to plan a proper attack to take down prey).
I'd personally suspect it would be some form of cat that would be the dominant species given that they are one of the most efficient and intelligent predators currently in existance and they have the capability of learning a great deal (like the human language, even if only simple words). Though possibly a dog could be too but dogs are too dependant.

Like any species that evolves to the sentient level, our purpose is to ask the question why and when we mature as a species, we give up the pat answer we cheated ourselves into believing was the real answer when we get rid of our gods.

If you believe the Bible, to take care of the garden of Eden. Not to abuse & slaughter the animals.....to take care of them. I think the world would be a lot better off. We've gone a long way towards destroying it in the last 100+ years. When we kill ourselves, cockroaches might be the only land beings to survive. Some legacy!

According to Carlin, the Earth wanted plastic, but it couldn't make it by itself. So we have filled that need, and when the Earth has enough plastic, she'll wipe us out.
