My credit score is somewhere between 500 and 550, and I have an auto loan through Drivetime that I would like to get out of. I need a new car (family is bigger, so I need a bigger car), but I still owe 11,000 on my old car. That's after a year and a half of making on-time payments. I didn't realize what I was doing when I got this car, now I feel like I'm stuck with it until I pay it off!!! My payments are $420 a month, and I can afford that just fine, maybe even more, but I can't find a dealership that will approve me without me putting $3000 or more down!!!

Can you talk to the dealership you are at and explain your situation? I am sure they would rather work with you than have you go elsewhere....
Or you could also take out a small loan (3,000 or less) to put as a down payment for a new car...

How much is the car worth? Maybe you can sell it privately and get enough money to cover the remainder of the loan, then you can take out another auto loan for your new vehicle.

Early yrs you paying interest and very little Principal, So my suggestion would be to either save the 3000$ or wait until the principal gets lower.
