Kids, like adults, will have an array of influences. It depends upon the child which of those influences will be dominant, but in general I'd say parents first, media second, and friends third. For many, though, none of these will be dominant. For free thinking young people, their own exploration of religious dogma and its effects upon their lives and the lives of others is very important.

I think EVERYTHING influences the children, either negatively or positively.

But the biggest influence for the child is the family atmosphere. If the child has been raised in a solid, secure environment, where the parents raise them to have confidence in themselves, and faith and trust in God, they will have the strength to battle outside influences.

And if the child doesn't have this at home, they will look for it elsewhere. And that "elsewhere" could be positive or negative.

It's tough being a kid nowadays.

Peers have been and remain the primary influence on young people, though parents often serve as boundry conditions for the expression of that influence. However, one cannot exclude the sheer force of genetics in its role in psychological development. Twin studies show dramatic correlation in the psychology of identical twins.

good parenting should set the standards for anything else that comes into their lives
if the parent has done a good job ... then outside influences will not have so much of an effect

in saying this .. i believe that good parenting should be about giving children choice , yet educating them in religion ( all religions )

The biggest thing that effects the young people is the faulty theology being spouted from the pulpit. All the hugs and lovey stuff NO MATTER WHAT just isn't the truth. People have to know there IS sin and it will send them to Hell.
