If people are easily drifted away from God because of materialism then they were never with God in the first place. It all about balancing it out. God gives us materialistic things for stewardship and to bless others if we don't then the very things that consumes us will bring destruction and harm to not only us but those who we surround ourselves with daily. We must use wisdom in order to get understanding in every area of our lives. King Solomon was the perfect example.

Shalom

...Yes, I agree with you.
...I live in the U.S. It is easy to be a Christian here - not much persecution, except maybe some laughing at us once in a while. I think in our affluent society, we forget that we need God.
...We can become complacent in our spiritual lives - less time in Scripture, little time in prayer and meditation. Someone said, "We give God the scraps" - too often true in my life.
...We have busy schedules, and lots of interests and toys, that take up our time.
...Here is a quote from Jim Elliot, one of several missionaries that were killed by the Auca Indians in Ecuador (and whose wives subsequently won the Aucas for Christ):
..."I may no longer depend on pleasant impulses to bring me before the Lord. I must rather respond to principles I know to be right, whether I feel them to be enjoyable or not."
...May God gives us grace to put Him first, and others second.

No. The greatest pleasure in my life is watching my children grow, participating in life as it happens around me and setting an example on how to be a better person. My relationship with God is as it is, and that's all.

People get swept away by the world and temptations- believing something that sounds "better" to them- it is sad.

Romans 1:25
They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

2 Timothy 4:3
For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,

1 John 1:6
If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

1 John 2:4
He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

The evolution fable has helped to destroy religious faith in the lands once known as Christendom. This unscientific myth has helped create the secular society, where Christian values and ethics have been replaced by so-called situational ethics. The ten commandments which once formed the basis of law and personal behaviour have been rejected. Right and wrong and national laws are now formulated by consensus opinion with no reference to God's law.
True repect for human life disintegrated in Christian lands with the legalisation of abortion. How can any society that sacrifices its unborn babies to the the god of convenience and materialism, hope to be blessed by God?

Is that why you drifted? Because you are materialistic? I started out my life with no other belief than god. Now, that I have grown and I am educated, I realize that god is a myth and that the mass majority believes so they can sleep well! Religion is the opiate of the masses. It makes people feel good to believe!
I know I try to treat people like I want to be treated. Karma's a b*tch and I dont want to mess with that!

It not so much as drifted as we have been forced. The secular "global" society doesn't work. The only way to fix it is to go back to traditional values.

Everybody talks about how religious people shove things in their face.Well that goes both ways. The "godless society" thinks we are supposed to just take it and not say anything. That's not what my bible tells me.

Because society as a whole, except for a vocal minority, is realizing that there are no gods or goddesses, and that god in general, by any name, is just an old story no more real than Zeus or Odhinn.
