Toys for Tots rejects Jesus doll
LOS ANGELES - A talking Jesus doll has been turned down by the Marine Reserves' Toys for Tots program.
A suburban Los Angeles company offered to donate 4,000 of the foot-tall dolls, which quote Bible verses, for distribution to needy children this holiday season. The battery-powered Jesus is one of several dolls manufactured by one2believe, a division of the Valencia-based Beverly Hills Teddy Bear Co., based on Biblical figures.
But the charity balked because of the dolls' religious nature.
Toys are donated to kids based on financial need and "we don't know anything about their background, their religious affiliations," said Bill Grein, vice president of Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, in Quantico, Va.
As a government entity, Marines "don't profess one religion over another," Grein said Tuesday. "We can't take a chance on sending a talking Jesus doll to a Jewish family or a Muslim family."

They did FINALLY take them. I think someone pointed out that Musilms and Jews don't celebrate Christmas, and I think the toys are designed to be CHRISTMAS presents. I didn't know toys for tots handled Haunkah and Muslim kids too! Wow! (Sarcasam here). Seriously though, 4,000 toys?! To turn that down is crazy! I don't care who gets them, the kids will be happy to have a Christmas. Who would turn away 4,000 toys?!

"We can't take a chance on sending a talking Jesus doll to a Jewish family or a Muslim family."
Well, they'll take the days off from work to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, but Hell will freeze over before they accept a free talking Jesus doll. Hippocrits!

Probably a smart move on their part. Imagine is one of these toys were given to a Jewish or Muslim child, and their parents took it away from them and threw it out because of the Biblical messages. It would be a rough Christmas for those kids.
But on the other hand; Why would Jewish and Muslim kids be celebrating Christmas?

with the aid of fact Jesus' fee for our sins became into not finished and the daddy became into compelled to withdraw His risk-free practices so as that the atonement for our sins could be finished. this implies Jesus experienced a non secular soreness some distance worse than being nailed to a go. U be attentive to that the enemy could desire to not face up to attacking and inflicting soreness on the Son of guy. And devil became into allowed to try this till the wrath of God have been accomplished upon His Son's head.

what you posted answers the question... It would be inapropriate to give a Jesus doll to a Jew or a muslim or any non-christian. The toys-for-tots are given without regard to race, religion, culture or any other guidliine except the need of the child. I am of The True Christian Faith and I am in agreement with the decision of The marine's to not pass out such dolls.....
I am also in great disagreement with the makers of such dolls... I do not personaly believe such images are apropriate for any one and should not be "passed out" by Christians or even kept by Christians.

well think about it the children are not necessarily all going to be Christians receiving gifts. The toys for tots is not about spreading the christian message. It is about giving children who might not get any other gift something to enjoy on Christmas day that is it.

I don`t go a bundle on these dolls myself, I find the idea very tacky and sort of puts Jesus in the same league as barbie and ken etc.

The answer was in the artical. The toys go to kids regardless of their religion. THey don't want religious gifts because they don't know the religion of the kids that will be receiving a gift. STick to safe gifts, like barbie and teddy bears.

Well, I don't know about them balking because of the religious nature, but I'd reject it only because I'd believe the toy was sacreligious and creepy. I think it's wrong when people try to secularize Jesus.

Sounds like you answered your own question. They don't know the children's religions. They can't risk the offense that would be caused by sending Christian toys to non-christian children.
