Ora jel for toothaches is a lidocaine based jel. Lidocaine is what a dentist would use to numb your mouth....it's also prescribed by doctors to numb other areas when needed. You can buy it over the counter and it will work to numb the area. I do not know how long it will last though. You may need to stop and reapply it periodically.

WELL, ALL I CAN SAY IS, TATS HURT BUT ONLY FOR A SHORT WHILE, BECAUSE YOU BEGIN TO BECOME NUMB AROUND THE AREA ANYWAY. AFTER A WHILE YOUR BODY AUTOMATICALLY BECOMES NUMB, SO YOU DO NOT NEED NO NUMBING OINTMENT. O AND WHILE YOU ARE GETTING A TAT DON'T THINK ABOUT IT TALK TO SOMEONE OR, FIND A FOCUS POINT. IT DOES NOT HURT AS MUCH AS YOU THINK IT DOES, SOMETIMES YOUR BODY BEGINS TO ENJOY THE TAT. ANYWAY IT WILL HURT A LIL WITH OR WITH OUT A NUMBING OINMENT, JUST MAKE SURE YOU TAKE CARE OF IT. OR THAT WILL HURT IF YOU DON'T. I KNOW THAT BECAUSE MY COUSIN GOT A TAT AND SHE DID NOT PUT VASELINE ON IT AND IT DRIED AND DID NOT HEAL CORRECTLY NOW SHE HAS A BIG SCAR.

Numbing is not required, nor is it recommended. As the article below explains "no pain, no gain."

It is said with numbing cream that "when the sensation returns, it is a shock to the system and the discomfort felt from being tattooed becomes more painful. Without the [numbing cream] it would have been annoying and possibly even a discomfort; whereas with the [numbing cream] the returning sensation is ten-fold what would have been felt without the use." Taken from article below.

I could paraphrase the rest of the article but it's short and I believe you would benefit much more by reading it yourself.

If you think it will hurt you that bad DON"T GET IT!!!!!! I have 3 so far and they don't hurt much at all! I thought It would be painful But it didn't really do much at all! You just need to relax and find your "happy place!" By the way how old are you? I've only heard that from some Immature kids saying stuff like that! sit down and take the pain like an adult and love it! Why would you not want to feel the needle? Just really relax and move on! no pain no gain! Love the pain, embrace it!

You should ask your tattoo artist if putting on a topical ointment will harm the art. He may be able to apply the outline and you could come back for the fill. I know they put A&D on the skin while they're outlining, but anything else might cause issues with the ink. You should ask him first.

I too am in the same boat. But I'm almost hoping to grow out of it. I already went through my piercing stage and I'm hoping I can live through this tattoo stage without getting one. It seems like such a good idea now, but if i don't have a solid reason to get one (like a commemoration piece or something) then Ill pass. But even if you do go with the idea, please please please do your research. Ask around for local shops and go take a walkthrough of the place. The owners are usually more than welcome to show you around if you would like. Just make sure everything is clean and they are professional. Also, ask around about them. it sounds like a lot of stuff to do before you go in, but its well worth the extra effort because thats something permanent on your body and there are a reasonable amount of complications that could arrise if you go in there blind. Good luck. :)

if you can't handle the pain, then you don't deserve a tattoo. that's my opinion. i am currently working on a full backpiece and i have to live thru every minute of the pain, 8 hours so far and probably six or so left to go, not to mention the touchup when i'm done. if you want a tattoo part of having it and getting it is enduring the pain.

numbing ointments arent going to help you any... take a really good painkiller (not so good you arent cpmpetent) and focus on something else... one time i focused on breathing steady, once was gritting my teeth... the best focal point i found was to try to push the tip of your tongue against your top front teeth as hard as you can... its suprisingly hard to do...

if you can't handle the pain don't do it... i got a tattoo for my 44 birthday... my whole upper right shoulder... find you a focal point on the wall and concentrate on something to get your mind off of it.. if you really want something, you don't have to have pain killers to get it. but if you really insist.. go to your Dr and ask for Emelia cream
