I have read to my child every day since the day he was born. It is never too early and gives the child a jump start on reading, reasoning, and learning.
Keep it up!

I think your doing a great thing and that's reading to your child keep it up most people now just plonk there children in front of the TV. I've been a nanny for many years and I've always found that you have a special time when you read to a child how ever small and as baby grows it'll broaden his/hers imagination which so many children don't have any more. your not mad your great it's never to early to pick up a book Plus it's great to have a story just b4 you go to bed.

That's wonderful that you are reading to your 5 week old. Continue with that and you are sure to instill a love of books in him. I read to my daughter (now 2-1/2) while she was still in the womb and she LOVES reading now. She's even beginning to learn to read at a very young age. Plus, reading books is a great way to bond with your child. It also helps them to associate your voice with pleasant times. What a wonderful mother you are!!!

It's never too early. I do not have children, but we read stories to my niece when she was just couple weeks old- she loved the bonding, and started reading and writing when she turned 3.
The earlier you start, the better. Kudos to you for reading.

I started reading when my oldest was still in my womb. I haven't stopped since. When my oldest was brand new I'd hold him in the rocking chair and read out loud from one of my own novels. He didn't know the difference. He'd just sit and stare at me. :)
Both of my boys LOVE books! And I'm pregnant with the third. He gets read to every night while I'm reading to the other two.

I don't think there's an age when it's "too early". It can't harm them so why not? I think it's perfectly fine to read to a 5 week old :-)

You should start while in the womb still. Its never too early, keep 'em away from that blasted TV though. His mind will be mush by the time he's five.
