My cat got trapped in a wild animal cage and the animal catcher took him to the pound. I found him there four days later and he had clear discharge from his eyes and a runny nose. He hardly looked at me when I said his name. He is doing better but still has the runny nose but his eyes are better. I am keeping him inside. His personality is not the same. He just walks around meowing. Does impoundment tramatize an animal that much?

Your cat might have a virus, an Upper respiratory infection that may possibly need antibiotics.
He's probably traumatized for sure. Outside life is hard enough...being caught and probably not treated the best by people who could give a s*it probably scared him for sure. It may take a couple of weeks to get him back to normal. Keeping him inside is a great idea for him.
I'd take him to the vet, just to check him over and make sure nothing else is wrong with him.

I really think that experience must have been very traumatizing for the poor guy. Upper respiratory infections are almost impossible to prevent in a shelter situation because of the number of animals. Stress can also cause a virus to get a "hold" on anotherwise healthy animal.
You can treat your cat's emotional stress and fearsome memories of his unfortunate experience by treating him with Bach flower essence Rescue Remedy.
You can find a little bottle at a health foods store for under $20. You simply shake the bottle well and put three to four drops on the cat's fur between his ears. Treat him four to five times a day for a while or until you see that he is feeling more relaxed safely at home with you. The flower essences treat emotional issues and cannot harm the cat in any way.
The RR can help him release his fear and memories of his unfortunate experience.
Time will tell if he needs veterinary attention for the illness. The essences won't interfere in any way with what the vet would give to treat him for that. And relieving his stress will help his body handle the URI more successfully.

city pounds are filthy full of viral and bactrial deseases. take your cat to the vet before it gets real bad

Yes, very traumatic for a little one (for a big one for that matter). I would consider getting her an antibiotic though and did she have all her shots current when she was caught? This is why I keep mine in the house.

Take her to the vet or get a vet to come do a house call. Give him lots of extra attention, and make sure he's eating well. Ditto on the psych ward thing.

Respitory viruses are very common in cat "kennel" areas, even vet hospitals. My vet automatically sends antibiotics home with any cat that is there more than 24 hrs. Call your vet and try to get him on antibiotics ASAP. If he is not up to date on his vaccines it could be something even more serious.

Sounds like your kitty may have picked up a virus or something at the shelter. Is she current on her vaccines? I would get her to the vet ASAP for a check-up.

Yes, your kitty is tramautized. If kitty hasn't had all her shots? She could be very ill. Get your baby to the vet asap. It could be worse than you think and if it isn't, at least you will know. good luck.
