I agree about the furniture. Sell it or give it away. If you have furniture of sentimental value, you may consider storing rather than taking it with you. The majority of homes in Hawaii do not have air conditioning and the weather conditions often warp wood.
Cars are also quite expensive to move to and from the islands so better to sell your car and buy an "island beater" - they are quite plentiful due to the transient nature of many of the residents.
Take bare essentials. The weather is pleasant so you won't need heavy clothes. The atmosphere is casual and even most business people dress that way and you can also dine most places dressd casually. You'll spend your free time at the beach, at the golf course or doing something else fun outside so you won't miss your indoor stuff at all.
I lived there for 3 fun years so I know.

Sure, sell or give away big ticket items if you don't have enough to fill a container, but be prepared to replace these items (new)at 25-50% more than what you paid. Garage sales and thrift stores are the way to go once you get there; because when you leave Hawaii, you will be selling everything you own for dollars in your driveway again. For books and other item you want to ship, USPS rates are MUCH better than UPS, and put them on the "slow boat" if you can. Make sure books are sent "media rate."
It can cost up to $2500 to ship a vehicle from the East Coast to the islands; if you drive it to California and put it on a barge there(Has to be empty), it would be just under $1000 one way to Hawaii.
Pack a couple extra huge suitcases of clothing and personal items and pay the $25 (depending on airline) extra for each when you fly out.
Keep in mind, being a tourist in Hawaii and living there are two very different things. It is not easy to make a living, and EVERYTHING, down to water ($2.25 a gallon; milk $5.50 gallon)is grossly marked up not only to cover shipping but also to get every last tourists' dollar out of their pockets. Unless you are moving to Honolulu, large stores are few and far between (I used to drive an hour to go to Walmart), and once you ge to the store, there is no guarantee what you are looking for will be in stock.
We just moved our family of 4 from Hawaii to Maine because, even with the help of our ohana in Hawaii, we were struggling to make ends meet. We sold everything, and shipped the rest USPS.
Good luck and aloha!

I would go with a national mover and check if they have offices in Hawaii.
Shipping furniture is way too expensive using UPS, Fed-ex, and USPS.

i don't think every physique has straight away replied your question. And the respond is 'it won't ensue.' The drilling end of issues is deliberate on a minimum return for the dollar spent. when I left, that quantity became into approximately 25%. That, of direction, became into on the wellhead and did not contain any transportation, pipelining, refining, R&D or company overhead. prevalent oil company salary are 6-9% at years lead to a sturdy 365 days. in the event that they could't make money doing it, it merely isn't accomplished. Oil does not acquire the 50% or extra guvmint subsidization like wind, image voltaic, ethanol and bio-diesel. whilst those components can financially compete head to head on a point playing container then oil and gas drilling and production will start up it is final days.

Take your clothing and small personal items only. Sell and give away all other possessions.

Well, we all know U-Haul isn't going to do it. If you are just moving clothing, etc, ship it; UPS, FED-EX, DHL, etc. Check the rates.
