How sweet! Jay is a cute name, as in Blue Jay. However, I see the advantage to Smokey too. I would say that Smokey is more common a name, however, it would stand out as different from any training commands. Jay and stay may cause issues. Enjoy your new baby. :)

Name him smokey and make sure he gets good training- pit bulls need all the help they can get breaking free from their "bad" image.

Smokey gets my vote.
Get him neutered as soon as possible! This will help with training, roaming, and with aggression issues that may occur. You can get a cheap neuter certificate from http://www.friendsofanimals.org to use at your local vet office.
Make sure you socialize and train him. And please, don't breed!!! Our pit bulls are in danger of all being outlawed and euthanized, due to temperment issues that derive from irresponsible breeding.

I, personally, don't like either... BUT, it's your dog and you should name him what sounds most natural for him. Leave it up in the air for a few days, because I can almost guarentee... you'll be calling something other than those two names! And don't listen to anyone else, cause thats what I did with my dog and I still regret it! Go with what YOU want and whats good for your pet. Good luck.
