I don't travel by airplane very often and I'm planning on taking a trip from the United States to Canada. Do I need to get a passport or something? How do I do that? Do they ask to see any specific documents or anything before you get on the plane? I'm just an inexperienced traveller.

I am not sure about the passport, check with the US customs to be sure.

See link: http://www.travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html

Check the following link for how to apply for a passport:

Or contact your nearest US post office.

Go to the post office for your passport then i would call the airline if you are flying to canada and if not i would call the border im sure you can call a travel agent to find out what all you need. I know you will have to get a passport to go to canada and you can get that at the post office.

If you're an American citizen, you don't need a visa, but I believe you still need a passport. There's no specific documents that you need to produce. You just need to apply for visa on arrival (at the Canada's airport). Have a fun trip.

Yes, since 9-11, you will need a passport. You can apply at many US Post offices now. I think it's around $75.00.
