I'm sorry but i agree with your wife, one way to Gage it is once the baby has teeth, but some mums breast feed till a year old. i think that if you breast feed too long the baby shows you interest in becoming independent and will find it hard to find comfort in any thing or any one else. just show the baby lots of love and affection and now you'll have a chance to let your child fall asleep in your arms and there's not better feeling of trust and love than when that happens.

The minimum predicted age for a natural age of weaning in humans is 2.5 years. The average age is 3-4. It has also been suggested by some to continue breastfeeding until the age of 6/7, half way through reproductive maturatity.
Really, I think it's more what your wife is comfortable with since she is the one having to do it. Perhaps if she's not comfortable with one and one contact, pumping could be suggested if she'd still like to provide breastmilk?

I think feeding from the breast at five is a little to old... however pumping the milk and giving in a cup OK I guess. Why else would your body produce milk for five years if not meant to give to child.

Its personal opinion. At age five, children are very aware of their surroundings, and I dont think its socially acceptable. It definitely can cause embaressment to the child in social settings. It might be the fact that your wife, doesnt want to let the "baby" go. Maybe its Mommies needs rather than the needs of the child. Children benefit from breastfeeding in the first year of life. I would accept it up to age 2. But Mom , needs to definitely cut the ties.

Everybody differs. The thing to remember is the child goes to school at age 5 or 6 right? The separation anxiety may be horrid if this is continued.

Even at 2 yrs. of age is getting a bit old. If she breastfeeds for two years your child will have all the benefits that breastfeeding can give. 5 yrs. is really pushing the boundries of being too old.

I think you are crazy. I've looked at your other questions. One of them is "can my wife get spouse support even though we only have one child and been married for two years?" another reads "is it wrong to be separated from your wife and not call her to check on your newborn baby?" You need to get a hobby, unless lying and deception is your hobby, then good job.

five years is definitely not the "average age" for weaning, but as long as mom is doing it because she wants to, and the kid enjoys it, it's okay. both should be prepared for some stares and comments, though. it would appear, however, that your wife doesn't wish to continue nursing, so unless you sprout some milk ducts of your own, i'd say sonny boy's breastfeeding days are over.

Unless you live in a 3rd world country, 5 years is way too long. It is pointless and unnecessary to nurse after a year.

In my opinion the age of 5 is way to old.
If parents want their child to continue to drink breastmilk beyond infancy and into toddlerhood they might want to consider putting it in a sippy cup.
