It seems either this questioner or his so-called "Jehovah's Witness" co-worker is prevaricating. Of course, there is nothing to prevent a person from falsely claiming to be a Jehovah's Witness, or from selectively ignoring his own claimed religious sensibilities. However, it is reprehensible when a person purposely slanders an outstanding Christian religion such as Jehovah's Witnesses.
Many Christians reject Halloween celebrations, since these tend to glorify Satan and the occult. Frankly, Halloween traditions seem to be the opposite of godliness and Christianity.
Holidays such as Halloween derive from false religion, and so are incompatible with pure worship, since they work to adulterate true religion. For example, Easter derives from the pagan god Oestre and celebrates "rebirth" and "fertility" instead of commemorating Christ's Last Supper and death as Jesus commanded:
(Luke 22:1-22) [Jesus] dispatched Peter and John, saying: “Go and get the passover ready for us to eat.” ...14 At length when the hour came, he reclined at the table, and the apostles with him. 15 And he said to them: “I have greatly desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer; 16 for I tell you, I will not eat it again until it becomes fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” ... Keep doing this in remembrance of me.”
Since such celebrations are not required in true worship, and can easily become a distraction, so Jehovah's Witnesses focus their attention elsewhere. In particular, they are focussed on the preaching work which *IS* a requirement for Christians:
(Luke 10:1-17) [Jesus] the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.

He may or may not be a JW, and he may or may not be an active publisher. Unlike other religions, when JWs release their figures, they only count active publishers. Also unlike other religions, when one is doing something against the Bible, members and leaders find themselves unable to continue their publisher activities, which is one way the elders and other publishers take note that something is wrong. A publisher is someone who regular attends the five meetings a week, and put in at least 6 hours a month in the field work.
Most every religion teaches against the reasoning behind Halloween, but only the witnesses are brave enough to do something about it.
There was a big blow out here about major Churches running haunted houses. There were a lot of editorial letters in the KC Star abhorring them for their graphic depictions of men, women, and children dying in the Apocalypse.

The Jehovah's Witnesses are the most widely known group of people who do not celebrate Halloween. There have been many public criticisms about the religion not celebrating any holiday with attacks being made on their beliefs and practices of "depriving children of their youth."
In response to the criticism, Jehovah's Witnesses stick to their belief that "holidays are false and unnecessary, or their backgrounds are noted or pertain to another religion."
In an issue of the Watchtower, the Jehovah's Witnesses magazine, an article simplified their beliefs and stated the reason they do not celebrate holidays is because they are of "Pagan origin" or "worldly people" celebrate them.

Witness do not celebrate Halloween and they aren't suppose to celebrate easter either. One of two options would be 1) life a previous comment is no longer a practicing Witness or 2) he is doing something he is very much not suppose to do :o)

true witnesses of jehovah will be known by their fruitage (matthew 7:15-17). those who claim to be worshippers of Jehovah but practice these holidays with their panag roots are going directly against the bibles commands and principles. (2corinthians 6:17, deuteronomy 18:10-12). that scripture in deuteronomy can apply specifically to haloween as it is a festival of the dead. worshipping the dead or any other idol or person is against bible teachings, which that only Jehovah God is to be worshipped (revelation 22:8,9)
so when people say they are Jehovah's witnesses but do not act in accordance with God's word, they are fooling themselves and others around them as they do not practice the bible's true teachings

Dressing up is pretending. It is not believing in or really having a hand in things. My J W students never celebrated, Christmas, birthdays, religious or public holidays. Dressing up as a rabbit or a ghost is not really a celebration of any festival and if it is for a good cause it is not breaking any rules.

Chill out... Sure, celebrations of typical [Christian] holidays are not allowed according to the teachings of JWs.
Look, I also once had an SDA friend who simply craved for shrimp cocktails and she used to wolf it down when I saw her in our formal gatherings. LOL.
But who are we to judge?
Peace be with you.
