Here's the quickie rundown. I live in Florida with a roommate, both of make decent money, enough to pay the bills. but last month our 3rd roommate was deployed to Iraq and now some bills came in that we have to cover between the 2 of us. anyways, my mom is a social worker and she said we both probably make too much money to get assistance, we called and asked for an extension but they said no becuase it's a new service. We just need help this one time becuase we got a new roommate now, it's just the old bills we can't pay...at least not right this second when they want us too. and we can't get ahold of our old rommate becuase she's overseas....where can we go to get one time assistance without the possibility of being turned away???

Try contacting your local Salvation Army-they don't' always go by your income.
Did you ask the company if you could send half now and the rest in a week or so??
Also, if this is just one months' bill-then they may not cut it off. A LOT of companies will let you get behind on one bill and not do anything until a certain date.
Here in NC-you can wait until you get your next months bill to pay.

I DON"T KNOW IF ANY OTHER COMPANY IN ANY OTHER STATE WILL WORK LIKE THIS
I only know this is how it is here in NC because my nephew got behind. He had a bill that was like $350 for Oct and was due on Nov 2. Well he couldn't pay it, so he waited and got his bill for Nov-(in late Nov-due Dec 3) and then he paid the oldest one from Oct. (They sent him a cut off date)
You really need to make sure you can do this before trying it.
Contact your local power company-and ask them how many days you have until they shut if off.

There is an organization called First Call. They have offices across the country. The link below might be able to help you out. They can give you a list of places that can assist you. You can also check to see if there is an Ecumenical organization ( I know there is one in Jacksonville Fl)locally that might help. As others have said try the Salvation Army and local churches. Also, if you or your other roomate (not the one deployed) are in the service you can get assistance through the Aid program. the links are below.

I have dealt with this project in Texas. the recent renter has to educate some data that they don't look a similar persons that ran up the previous invoice. Ask the electric powered agency what style of knowledge they want- probable a sparkling lease exhibiting the recent call. possibly wanting some thing from the owner pointing out what occurred to the former renters. In Texas the electric powered agency would could attempt to get the money from the former renters- not you.
