my friend at work says no its safer to let kids tumble during a crash. when belted seats will bust lose and tumble with kids. also brad stated tests show its safer to not be buckled. i strongly disagree. its law in mass but not on buses. it will keep them sitting also.

Yes seat belts are safer... accoring to your friend maybe we should take off the restraints from roller coasters too.

i think that there should be seat belts and that they should be in forced but at the same time i don't think that if we did have them that bus drivers would enforce them-----just like were supposed to be sitting up straight and be looking forward all the time but when u look at the school buses the kids are running around and standing on the bus----and if it is safer to have the kids tumbling on top of each other then the buses should be changed to make them safer

I absolutely feel that school busses should have seat belts.

I too have heard the reasoning that the kids are safer without seatbelts in an accident because they can get out more quickly.

Rubbish!

The only reason there are no seatbelts is MONEY!

If there is a state law that requires kids in private vehicles to be belted, then the same law should apply to busses.

It wouldn't hurt, although I don't think that there would be much of an increase in safety. I think that it would complicate things in the event of a fire or other similar event when getting off the bus in a hurry is important. I think that kids are safe in a school bus with out seat belts because of the size of the vehicle and the extra safety and precaution that is exercised by bus drivers.

I just saw a report on the news about this. There were many studies that showed that the child suffered more damages to the neck and spine during crashes if they were buckled in. It was hard for me to believe but they showed the pictures of test crashes with dummies. They said that it is indeed more dangerous if you are in a seatbelt on a bus. They were showing that the damage was severe even with a shoulder seatbelt. That is a hard one for me. Hopefully they can come up with a safe way to keep them strapped in and change the outcome of the injuries.

I had a 32 year old nephew that was driving his brand new pick up with two buddies.

He was ejected and the truck landed on top of him in a rollover. His buddies were dazed and didn't know where he was. They were wearing seat belts.

I flew out and helped officiate his funeral.

Sorry Brad, you are so very wrong.

Yes they should have seat belts on busses...i don't see any logic in not having them wear one...it should be a law 4 sure.

.. okay then.

.. when there is an accident, with fuel everywhere, and a downed poweline .. which one of you is going to unstrap all the little brats, one at a time?

.. what they should do ..

.. is pad the ceiling, floor walls, and chairs. Maybe even improve those rear shocks a little. They should also have a strict training program for drivers (not anybody that answers a small classified ad).
