One of the big complaints voiced against Islam is that adherents too often do not condemn Muslims who advocate violence.

However, we all know people with whom we share a world view who is prone to saying things that embarrass us or that paints religion/stance in a bad light.

For example, although I'm a gay atheist, I disagree with Elton John that religion should be banned. I wish he had shown a bit more tolerance and recognition that Christianity is not monolythic.

Who in your own religious or philosophical group do you wish would "put a sock in it"? Feel free to name more than one.

im not christian but i highly think that the Westboro Baptist Chruch shouldnt be around. they are coming close to KKK in that they promote hate against gays... they are teaching their children to hate gays as well. i may not be gay but this form of disrespect for fellow humans is way too extreme.

There are some with whom I don't necessarily share all their views (such as Benny Hinn) - I wouldn't include them in the answer to your question. I would say some of the TV evangelists (those who continually ask for money and put people either on a guilt trip or make false promises on behalf of God). I also would include Pat Robertson - the right wing extremist who seems to forget who Jesus is when he makes remarks about foreign leaders. What is embarrassing is that these people claim to be evangelical Christians, and people think that is what evangelical Christianity is all about, which it is not. The encouraging thing is that in the case of most of those TV evangelists, they are not getting support from evangelical churches - just from an undiscerning public. In some cases, however, I have to admit, some evangelical churches do support certain of those (undeserving in my understanding) TV evangelists without really looking in to what they are supporting.
By the way the problem is not an evangelist on TV. I am referring to those who use unscrupulous methods to either enrich themselves or make themselves famous.

Pat Robertson.

A man who prays to God to speed the death of a liberal Supreme Court Judge just because he wants to see installed a conservative therein is a psychopath.

Also, any Neo-Nazi associated "Christian" organization can go die in a fire. The only time in the Bible where Christ actually got physically confrontational, upturning tables and shouting was when people were using the name of his Father as an excuse to extort people out of their money.

That in mind, what WOULD Jesus do to these people who are using the name of God as an excuse to advocate hatred and violence against their fellow man?
