AT&T states that Win98 is not supported, and I don't think the current version of their software works with Win98. But you only use that stuff once, to set up your userid the first time- there is no software involved after initial setup.

After that's done, you don't need their software, you just plug the DSL modem into your network card (or preferably a router) and it doesn't matter what operating system your computers have.

I installed AT&T DSL for my aunt by using my WinXP laptop, even though her machine is Win98.

It's true that windows 98 it's not supported (Actually Microsoft stopped their support in this OS) but it can still work as long as you purchase a smart modem. I would suggest to get a speedstream 4100. The only problem is you won't be able to download the AT&T yahoo browser because it won't let you on the AT&T yahoo website. Make sure that your computer is free from viruses or spywares and that the drivers for your network card is properly installed. The memory of you computer should be at least 512MB. You can also use Internet Explorer to browse the internet. I would also suggest for you to download Mozilla Firefox. Quite a good browser. Here is the link: www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

If I remember correctly ATT stopped supporting Windows 98. You may ahve to upgrade. Call them and ask them first BEFORE you invest the time and effort into getting it.
