1-1/2 C sugar
1 navel orange
1/2 t grated ginger
4 C cranberries
1/2 C (2 oz.) toasted pecans
Grate the orange peel and add to a pot with the sugar and ginger.
Add the juice from the orange into the pot and simmer over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved.
Add cranberries and cook until they pop - about 5 minutes.

Margcolins' idea is a very good way to cook cranberries.
You can also cook cranberries in a simple syrup (sugar and water) and add orange zest.
One of the kitchen queen's friends likes to add citrus-infused rum to the cooking pot. (Sounds like it tastes good, but I haven't tried it yet. If you do, remember to take the pot off the live flame before adding some "good-time juice").
Happy cooking,
kitchen queen

Definitely with sugar. Cranberries are a difficult fruit to eat on their own because they are so tart. If you don't want to use a lot of refined sugar, why not try cooking them in fruit juices or your favorite liquer?

The easiest way is to cook them in orange juice (just enough juice to almost cover them). Cook them until they pop open. Add honey to taste.
