My fiancee gave me an engagement ring approx. a year ago but I never offically set a wedding date. I admit, I became scared about the whole marriage thing because I had been married before and went through hell with my ex. I was just plain scared to death. During the course of that year of being engaged; me and my fiance didn't seem like we were getting closer; it seemed like we were pulling apart. Now that I have set a date, it seems like he loves me to death and treats me better than he ever has. Does finally setting a wedding date have anything to do with his new profound love for me? Did he not think I wanted to marry him?

Very possible. Or he thought you were dragging your feet. It is understandable that as more time went by, and he began feeling more insecure, that he distanced himself from you. It was probably a way for him to protect himself in case you backed out. Now that he feels more assured you will proceed he feels free to express his love for you again. I hope that helps.

He probably thought that you were not seriously committing to him. The setting of the date has placed a new confidence in his heart that you really love him. This means a lot to us guys (at least it does to me). He obviously wants to marry you or he would have tried to shirk the marriage. Good luck - it appears that you have found a serious one here.
