How many months does it take to see positive effects in the hair, skin and nails? Do vitamins become less effective over time, do you build a 'tolerance' to them?

I don't know about hair but I use vitamin B complex from time to time. I noticed that I need to use at least 30 tablets in 30 days to prevent mouth ulcers from appearing soon and to stop white marks in nails. However, in any vitamin it depends on how really the person needs them and accordingly how long he or she needs to use them.
