it has a nice strong sound. it would go well with a multisyllable last name. it has a unique spelling. apart from any family or ethnic associations, i'd play down kurt cobain and play up kurt vonnegut.

i mention this because i noticed that my youngest son loves hearing about other people who share his name.

a widely publicized serial killer was travelling the country in crazed style right at his birth, with the name we'd chosen, and I suggested we change the name. well, we didn't. he's never heard of the killer, but he's heard of lots of cool people with his name and he likes learning about them.

(wait til he finds out he was born on the day we dropped the atom bomb...)

oh - i just read others answers and saw you are intending the association with cobain. i think it is a terrible mistake to name a child after someone who chose suicide as a way to cope - suicide when he had a young child. as you can guess from my original answer, names are important to children and they seek meaning in them. i would say if he notes the connection to cobain, emphasize the good things he gave the world and don't even ever talk about the suicide until your son is a teen. seriously.

Too hard to tell without a last name, but offhand not really.

It isn't all that attractive and I'm not sure what it means.

Do you really want to name your child after a rockstar? I know a lot of people have some admiration for him, but all in all, we are talking about a drug addict, whom you'd never met. You met nothing to him, neither did his daughter considering he committed suicide leaving her with her drug addict mother and no father.

I don't judge a person for addiction or mental illness because I believe they are diseases not flaws in a person...but really.

Why would you name your child after a total stranger, who when all is said and done is not exactly the example you'd like your child to aspire to?

No. I think the name Kurt is ugly for a man and even more so for an infant or toddler.
