Please don't put cereal in your babies bottle. If they are that little his/her tummy isn't equipped to digest it yet and thinking it will make them sleep all night is a myth. Cereal should be fed when they are capable of supported sitting and can swallow it when given with a spoon.

You are told most of the time to not do this, but in some cases, like mine i was told to put cereal in the bottle. My daughter spit up uncontrollably from day one until she was at least 8 months old. I had to put cereal in her bottles to keep the liquids down. I would only put a small amount in with her formula to make the formula itself heavier and keep it down better. They said there was a part of her throat or something that wasn't shutting like it should and was allowing everything to come back up so the only way to keep that from happening was cereal with it. It didn't stop the spitting up all together but it helped tremendously! If you are just giving baby the cereal just to be doing it, if baby is smaller than 4 months then i don't suggest using a bottle. But to make the hole bigger i have used a needle and got the tip hot with a lighter and put it in the end of the nipple and moved it around in circles to make it bigger. also have used just the end of small scissors. just stick it in there and twist it around. hope that helps! have a great day!

I used rubber nipples which stretch a tad to better let cereal induced formula out. I used a fork to stretch it out. The plastic ones didn't do as well. With my youngest I learned that it was a lot easier and cleaner to use an old formula cannester with the scoop. For every 2 scoops of formula I used 1 scoop of cereal. It made it a little thicker. As for everyone stating not to thicken go with your gut instinct. You know what's best. I didn't start thickening until my oldest was 4 wks and my youngest was 6 wks. Also remember that this doesn't help with the sleeping at night.

I was against putting cereal in my son's bottle but my husband was all for it so we made a compromise and we started putting a little bit in after the Doc said it was okay for solids... I had them same question about the hole in the nipple i used a knife to put a whole in it and i used a CLEAN nail to make the hole bigger... Both ways it ruined the nipple because the hole got bigger every time he drank... I suggest just go to the store and buy a fast flow nipple when i did that it was more affective

You should put cereal in the bottle because then the baby will get used to getting the cereal taste from a bottle and not from a spoon. I started my daughter with rice cereal when she was about 4 months old. If your ped. says it's okay to start solids try it out. I'll tell you one thing tho- if you're trying to get your baby to sleep all night that usually doesn't help. Good luck!

You should not put cereal in a babies bottle just to "satisfy" them or make them sleep longer. A baby is ready for cereal at 4 months and then only with a spoon. Don't worry about how long the baby sleeps and feed them when they are hungry.

You can buy special nipples at babies r us, walmart, target, etc. But please do not put cereal in your baby's bottle. I'm going to assume that your dr said it was okay to start feeding it to your baby.(my son started cereal at 4 months because he was a huge kid that would nurse constantly and my dr suggested it) My dr also told me if I wanted to I could put it in his bottle and both grandmothers jumped down my throat at the idea, swearing that he would not learn to take food from a spoon. I babysit an 8 month old now who was given cereal from a bottle and trying to feed him cereal is horrible. In the beginning it was tough to feed my son but by 4 1/2 months, he had it down pat. the 8 month old I babysit for, no such luck. More comes out still than goes in because he didn't start eating off a spoon until later and felt he didn't need to eat since he was getting all he needed from his cereal bottles. So it may be easier in the beginning but you'll regret it later on.

It's not safe to put cereal in a bottle. Talk to your childs peditrician. Try increased feedings, and increased amounts of formula or breastmilk. When the child is about 4 or 5 months he/she will be able to eat cereal with a spoon.

My first instinct was to say, "Don't give the baby cereal in a bottle." Before I said that, I wanted to research a bit. Seems you shouldn't do that because, according to a pediatrician "...Breast milk or formula provides everything your baby needs until he's 4 to 6 months old. Introducing cereal earlier than that puts him at a higher risk for allergies."
