I'm very confused on how this turned into a racist term. Since most people saying this is racist are Mexican, I'm going to use their nationality in my point. Let's say a Mexican breaks into your house and robs you blind. Are we saying this is illegal because he's Mexican and we're racist, or is it because he broke the law? Just curious on your thoughts.

Only to those who support illegal immigrants think it's a racist term. I think it's a load of BS - I don't care WHERE they're from - I expect anyone who makes the choice to move here to follow our laws. I haven't figured out why that makes me a racist.

As to your hypothetical question, there are a lot of people who would STILL call you a racist. Personally, if someone breaks into my house, I believe in shoot first, ask later - and I don't care if they're brown, pink, green.....

Illegal Immigrant is not a racist term. However, if you are calling the perpetrator "illegal immigrant" just because he/she looks as one to you, then this is prejudice. The REAL FACT here is that someone "broke into your home and robbed you." This act is ILLEGAL. This person is breaking the law and the code of ethics. Color, gender, nationality, marital status, age, legal status in this country etc, DOES NOT MATTER.

The term "illegal immigrant" is in no way racist. It is stating a fact and the status of a person. If you are not here legally, you are here illegally, correct? If you are not a citizen of the United States and you want to stay here, you are considered an immigrant, correct? Therefore, if you are not a citizen of the US and you are here illegally, that makes you an illegal immigrant. Regardless of what country you are from, that's what you are. Undocumented Immigrant may sound better to some folks, but I don't believe in being politically correct for the sake of being PC. I call it what it is. People who say illegal immigrant is a racist term are not, in my opinion, facing facts and are just trying to be politically correct. I say that is hogwash.

No it is not a racist term. As usual a certain group is trying to make it one. This is being done by the same people who stated that the house bill was racist. When I read both of the proposed bills not at any time did I see "Stop the MEXICAN Immigrants". The bills were set to stop ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION. The bills were designed to stop all illegal immigrants regardless of their country of origin.

You've got 3 different statements going on.

The term illegal immigrant refers to a person in another country illegally or without proper documentation and permission to live there. It's not just a referrence for Mexicans, it's for any person in any country without proper documentation and permission to live there. An American would be an illegal immigrant in France if they were there without proper documentation and permission to live there.

If a Mexican breaks into your house and robs you blind, it is illegal because the person broke the law. You wouldn't call them an illegal immigrant for that. They would just be a criminal. It has nothing to do with the fact that they are Mexican.

It's racist to say all Mexicans are illegal immigrants.

Illegal alien is not a racist term because it is the truth.
A documented alien is not a racist term because again it is the truth.
However I do believe that there is a racist term in use by the government and it is OTM meaning Other Than Mexicans. This term is used to describe some of the people seized at the border.

Him breaking into your house and robbing you is illegal because he's breaking the law by doing that act. It is illegal for ANYONE to do that. The term Illegal Immigrant means some who is an immigrant from another country and is here illegally(meaning doeesn't have papers).
And NO...it's NOT a racist term.

Because the pro-illegal alien lobby has a bottomless pit of money and can hire PR people to spin (and fabricate) anything any way, there are an undue number of myths and lies that the public (and many politicians) has bought into. The facts are:

It is not racist to call them "illegal aliens" In fact, "illegal aliens" is the only term used in federal laws and regulations to describe criminals (and they are criminals) who come into our country illegally. They are not illegal immigrants, not undocumented immigrants, not migrant workers, and not day laborers - they're illegal
aliens. It is racists to think all Mexicans are illegal.
Mexico is NOT a poor country. By sending its teeming masses to our country, that status keeps on rising. Mexico has more resources per square mile than the U.S. and plenty of money to take care of its own people. Why should the taxpayers of this country subsidize Mexico's corruption?

It has not been turned into a racist term, just some people relate to it that way. But back to your Mexican breaking into your house, the act (crime) is illegal, and if the Mexican is illegal,, then he faces deportation after completing his sentence, but if he's legal, he will serve his time, get out, and rob you again.

No, illegal immigrant is not a racist term.

However, many believe that illegal immigration would not be such a hot political and emotional issue if the illegal immigrants in question were not mexican.

Many see the illegal immigration debate as a red herring used by racists to vent against mexicans.

If you look at some of the arguments used by immigration reform advocates, you will see a lot of stereotyping and sweeping generalizations against mexicans.

No it is not. Some people would like you to think it involves race but there are illegal immigrants from all over the world living in the US. The fact that the largest number of them are Mexican due to a common border is irrelevant. The definition regards the fact that a lot of people are in our country illegally defines illegal immigrant. But probably a better term would be "Passive Invader".
