Crushing ice?

Question

I want to make some nice slushie drinks in my blender, but it never seems to work out.
Should I crush the ice first....how do I just crush ice?
Or is there a good ice to liquid ratio to get the best slushie result??

Place the ice in a plastic bag, cover with an old towel, hit with a hammer.

Two parts ice to one part liquid is a good place to start. Add extra liquid if needed.

Crushing the ice first and draining off the water is the best way in my opinion
