So for the past 3 weeks I've had lump in my armpit forming. It seems to have peaked out at this point. Its rather large, and is rather hard. Its not so much just swelling, but like there is something underneath the skin there. The "head" of it (the part closest to the surface) is small-ish, but as you start going deeper (by pressing your fingers into the armpit to the side of the lump) it feels like it might be an inch or so deep. My understanding is that there are lymph nodes there, and it might be a swollen one, but something about it makes me think its something else. Maybe its how sorta...solid it feels. Anyways, it usually doesn't hurt unless pressure is put on it. My range of motion is a little restricted, but it might be improving, its hard to say right now. The swelling around the lump has gone down, which is why I can actually feel an "object" in there. Anyone have any ideas as to what this is? thanks a bunch!

oh, I am a 19 year old male, if that helps any :)

It sounds like you have a kernel, it is where one or more of your armpit hairs have gotten plugged by using spray antiperspirants. My sister had this problem and once she switched to roll on deodorants it quit. But just make sure it isn't something very serious, please consult your physician. If it is really hard it has a kernel in it, which can be removed. Good Luck!!

You had best see a doctor because while it could just be a run of the mill swollen lymph node, the other poster was correct in suggesting it could be an indication of cancer or pre-cancer.

Not to alarm you but it's better to let the doctor decide what it is.

Swollen lymph node is the most likely cause. You might get it checked out because it might be a symptom of something serious (an infection or cancer).

Also, there is something called a 'lyposom', which is basically a small fatty growth. I had one on my hip and my sister had one on her wrist. They are much like you describe, they are innocuous unless they have pressure placed on them.

It's definitely a swollen lymph node. Lymphadenopathy is usually caused by a viral or bacterial infection. Other causes include allergic reactions, arthritis, cancer, metabolic diseases, and an overactive thyroid. Only your doctor can help make it get better, so it'll be best if you make an appointment right away.
