Not always. You should really use caution when dealing with an injured pet. EVEN YOUR OWN!!.

One of my dogs 60 lbs was running circles in the yard slide down behind a lilac bush and got his back leg stuck under a wood plank of the privacy fence. He is my baby boy. I ran out and had to push the fence plank and pull his leg and comfort him all at the same time while crouched down under a bush. He loves me and I love him but I could still tell in his eyes it was taking everything he could not to bite me. It hurt him to get the help he needed. He kept going towards my hand but would lay it back down once he got his teeth close.

No tan lines - Before you get to cocky please remember that a dog licking your face is showing he is in charge of you. He is in control of the situation. Second just because your pet does okay does not mean they all do and if you are telling a 12 yr old girl here she can go help a dog that has just been hit by a car without any worry of being hurt herself you are in the wrong. You don't know why someone may be asking or who they are and you need to realize your dog is one but there are millions upon millions of dogs out there.

No clue. I don't see how dogs can truly understand that your actions will help them down the road - dogs don't have a concept of the future. They can certainly tell if you are kind and gentle, though. However, we have seen a number of severely matted, filthy dogs come into our shelter. It must be incredibly uncomfortable when we shave them and they obviously are not used to clippers, but most of them stand still for the entire procedure. I always say that it is because they are so thankful, but that is really just being anthropomorphic - I think we have just always been very lucky!

Dogs are very spiritual animals and can tell if other animals are sick or just under the weather. They can detect injury and illness in their human counterparts also. This is why they do so well as guide animals, companion animals etc. Can they tell when they are sick? You bet they can, even extreme illnesses like cancer affect their moods and self esteem. They understand completely when you are trying to help them and even the most abused animal can sense kindness and understanding We can learn to communicate with them and when we do we get a sense of their wellbeing.

YOUR dog may know that you are trying to help but OTHER dogs may not, as someone who worked in a vet clinic for a really long time, the general consensus is that strange dogs are always on their guard as you should be with any that isn't yours. Then there is always the excceptioin to the rule.

I think most dogs (and cats) do understand. It depends on the animal. I truly believe it is a matter of trust. If you pet trusts you, instinctively they seem to know you are only helping them. One of my dogs would come to me when hurt, knowing I would make it better, even if it hurt to help. But not all dogs are like that,

Yes they do. Dogs are very smart and know you want to help, but only if it is your own pet. Be very careful before approaching an injured animal who does not know you, you could get seriously hurt.

Not always. Sometimes they are too stressed out if they are seriously injured. Just watch animal planet. You have to be gentle and earn their trust and I have seen shows where they tried to get away from those that wanted to help!

i might want to examine the phonebook and observe if their is an ER vet contained in the realm. Wheezing can be a real issue- that is larger to have your puppy regarded at formerly it turns into hard to respire. i does not wait until eventually Monday- a puppy not ingesting for 3 days is serious. solid success.

I think that some dogs do but others are just so scared that they don't want you near them no matter what you are doing. I think it depends on the personality of the dog too.

I the dog belongs to you they know that you will help them. If you are a stranger then the dog is aready afaird and they will get upset. If your dog is hurt they will come to you to help them.

You need to approch a strange dog slowly and talk quitely and soothing to the dog. Then you can help the dog if it seems to understand that you will not hurt it. But if the dog get mean, you need to watch for rabies
