It seems to me that a number of Christians get bogged down in legalism, if that's what you mean.
Whether or not my perceptions are reliable is a whole other matter.
While I tend to agree with you, I just hope that my agreement doesn't support any misinterpretations of Scripture. In other words, while I have my own views, I'm also willing to be wrong if it is pointed out to me, in Scripture, exactly where and how I am wrong.
But--regarding your last question--it also appears to me that many Christians carry the news of damnation instead of the good news of salvation. This aggrieves me. While Jesus certainly spoke of hell, and minced no words regarding it, his message was consistent and clear: that there is One Way to eternal life. So, I spread the news of the Way.
And I don't pretend to be a competent judge of human souls, as any of us shouldn't....since we're not. So, regarding issues such as homosexuality (especially), I tend to butt out. God's grace is God's business, not mine. I can say with no certainty whatsoever who shall enter heaven and who shall enter hell. What I do is read God's Word, pray for God's will, and walk in faith. That is, I do my part in working out my own salvation--and letting others know, too, that it is available for them.
I hope this answers your question.

Traditions can get in the way a lot fro progress. The deff of ignorance is repeating the same motions over and over (and it faililng everytime) but expecting a different result.

Doctrine and dogma are part of it but the biggest part is self. We are very selfish in nature and because of our selfish nature we always want to be right. We don't like to ever thing that we are wrong about anything. We have to win at everything that we do and that carries over to religion. Man starts writing his own beliefs in to faith and in doing so he write many people out and only allows just a few in. One group looks at another and instead of noticing where they are similar they look at where they are different.
But that isn't what true faith is about. True faith is getting beyond self and looking to the needs of others. Sounds good doesn't it, but it is harder that anything you will ever do. Who is willing to deny their own self? But that is what truly faith full are called to do. To deny oneself and pick up their cross and follow. Who is truly willing or even wanting to do that? Even those that will claim the faith are not totally willing to deny self.

Yes, traditions of men, that go beyond Scripture, can be dangerous and devisive.
As Jesus said, "'BUT IN VAIN DO THEY WORSHIP ME, TEACHING AS DOCTRINES THE PRECEPTS OF MEN.' Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men." He was also saying to them, "You are experts at setting aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition."
Mark 7:7-9
I love how Jesus boldly proclaimed the Truth and didn't worry about offending people.
