A cold sore is caused by the herpes virus which can appear at any specific time. Often when we are stressed our immune system is run down and the virus tends to manifest itself at those time. Abrevia is the best non prescription ointment for a cold sore. If you want something stronger then you would need to talk to your doctor to see what he recommends. Since herpes is contagious when the sore is active remember to keep your hands away from the cold sore and not to share eating or drinking utinsels with anyone and don't kiss anyone.

It's a variant of the herpes virus. It remains in your body and surfaces during times of stress, illness, cold weather, etc..

You can take Lysine drops or tablets, which has been shown to heel and prevent outbreaks.

Abreva (OTC) seems to work well for most people.

not sure what causes them but I know what my grandma does to get rid of hers. she puts some toothpaste on it and lets the toothpaste dry. she leaves it on for abt 48 hrs then washes it off and the cold sore is gone.

good luck

stress and diet can cause the outbreak. sometimes it will take time to heal just keep using the creams up to 5 days after there is nothing there to make sure it totally clears
