e.g. chocolate and raisins. And what is a good way to help this? - and why is it happening?

you may be anemic.....usually when you crave something you have a defieciency that your body is trying to satisfy.....when you do eat iron rich foods make sure you drink orange juice with it because the vitamin C helps your body absorb the iron.

Oat or wheat bran are really high in iron. Even a serving of Special K will give you almost your full daily allowance of iron. And drinking orange juice with it will help you to absorb it. Watch out for the liver though. It has a lot of vitamin A and is usually recommended that you minimize your intake of liver during pregnancy. (Now you have a medically supported reason to not have to eat liver. :) ) I hear you on the chocolate, it's hard to stay away from.

You crave things that your body is lacking & needs. Ask any woman that has ever been pregnant! You obviously have an iron deficiency

Your body will cause you to crave things it needs. It may be getting near your monthly time so it needs iron. I have the same with high calcium foods.

I'm sorry, but chocolate and raisins aren't exactly "iron-rich" foods. Meat, soy products and dark green vegetables are iron-rich foods. I don't think you're craving iron, I think you just like chocolate and raisins.

I agree you may be anemic and craving the foods that contain the nutrients your body is lacking.
Pay attention to your cravings, you could develop a pica and begin to eat odd things that are not normally consumable to satisfy your cravings.

Because you lack iron in your diet. Your body craves what it needs.

Chocolate is not high in iron but can stimulate the limbic system which produces the good feelings it brings.I think the combination of chocolate and raisins takes soo good that it is hard to leave them alone.Make the decision to curb your craving. Difficult;but not impossible.
