first I thought I was reading about myself. I had an anterior/posterior spinal fusion and I have the pain in my tailbone like you say the pain hurts so bad when you try to get out of a chair you feel like you could scream, I have mentioned this to my doctor several times they seem to ignore it, I never get an answer I believe it has a lot to do with my posture. the docs say sit on a donut but they are crazy if I can carry a little air pillow around what I found that helps is in the evening when I am done for the day I relax for about an hour sitting on a heating pad. other diagnosis I have had is fibro-myalgia and arthritis they all play a role in your bones. I can't take long car rides or sit for long periods because I look like a freak trying to stand up and walk so I do know your pain I have had this for over five years and if I ever get a straight answer I will be sure to post it. (we both know what a pain in th @$$ this is LOL!)

I fell about 10 yrs ago on my tail bone and damaged the hair line bone that runs down from the tail bone. I bent it real bad and had lots of pain and my legs hurt also.
I went to a Chiropractor, thank god I did. He was a great help and the bone healed and I am 69 now and have not had any problems with it since.
He had me sitting on a Donut Pillow { this takes the pressure of the tail bone}. I still use it when driving. When laying down I rotated with heat and ice on the lower back, this helped a whole lot.
For pain I took 900mg of Motrin. Prescribed by my Dr....
Good Luck

yes < i know what kind of pain you are taking about..but mine is not from an accident or injury, it is from a chronic disease..that there is no cure for ( and it is not contagious ) ..
I have lived with different joints and bones in my body getting worse, year by year..since I was 15 years old..
ans I am only 29..
So, I understand..but there is not much relief for people who really need medications.. I know alot of con artists who claim injuries and pain and know how to work the doctors and the system to get all the medication they want to get high on and a paycheck so they can party and live a good life..
Its sad, and I hope someday people like us can actually get the help we deserve..

As far as I know you can still go to your local emergency room without any insurance. There are also walk in clinics that work on sliding scales! Call 211 and ask them if they can help you, explain what is going on and he/she will tell you exactly what to do or where to go. As far as hurting your back, is it possible that you may have the pain due to bad weather? I know this sounds obsurd but I have many pains due to old injuries. Call 211, or go to your local ER. Maybe call state again and see if you can get an extention to your medical, call your old worker. Good luck!

Could be a tail bone cyst. These are extremely painful.
You should do whats called a sitz bath to sooth the pain.
The cyst will need to be removed if the soaking doesn't cure it.
You will not necessarily see a cyst, it could be very deep. If the area is red or painful to the touch, then the infection could go into your spine. See a doc right away.

Go to the emergency room and let them know you are a private or self pay. Most hospitals have some sort of sliding scale payment for those without health insurance, and being self pay you can also let them know you only want the minimum tests done to accuratey diagnose and treat you.
Good Luck

i hurt my tailbone about 4 years ago but i am only 38, they keep telling me that i am too young to have these problems and won't do anything to help me except for pain meds.....i don't want the meds i want it fixed......mine doesn't feel like it is coming out of my skin either, it feels more like someone is standing on my pelvic bone with all of their weight!!!!! Have you had an MRI? that is how they finally found all of my problems, noone would believe me before that. you should check into getting one done and check with your local human services about getting a medical card since you aren't working!!
Good luck....you will be in my prayers tonight because i know how bad back pain can be!!!!

Go see a chiropractor. It could be a problem in your sacro-iliac joints. These are the joints just below your low back and slightly to the side (some people call that area their hip although it isn't). He/she will know what to do or who to refer you to. Most will have some form of payment plan if you are in a tough financial situation. Good luck.

Sounds like the beginning of Osteoarthritis, You need to see a doctor to rule out anything else. I have had a broken tail bone and I know it when we have weather changes.

I injured my tailbone many years ago as well. Your sciatic nerve is probably pinched. I went to a Physical Therapist and it's fine now.
