If you are talking about the Christian God, that was Constantine II, who promised to follow the Christian god if he gave him victory in a decisive battle.
Legend says that he had a dream where he saw a cross and heard the words "In hoc signe vincis"="you will win under theis sign."
He then had a banner with a cross made, and after his victory declared Christianity the new state religion in the Roman empire.

Sure they all told you it was Constantine but they didn't tell you he refused to be baptised until he was on his deathbed so throughout his life he was most likely a pagan at heart.
