Honestly...I have never in my life washed a cat. And I have lived with cats most of my life. I really don't think baths are good for them. I would just brush the cat and let them do their thing....your cat is probably rolling in the dirt because you are drying out it's skin with all the soaps and stuff. Call your Vet and ask them.....Good luck to you and Pepper!

My cats love rolling in dirt. Especially my kitty Tart- he gets so caked in it that he looks like a totally different cat- his fur is much lighter! But he never fails to get himself cleaned up. The only time I've ever felt the need to bathe any of my cats was when they were small and couldn't take care of themselves. I don't think there's a limit on washing your cat, but I'm sure just leaving your kitty alone would be just as good.

I have never given my cats a bath in the ten years I have had them. There outdoor access is limited to my own garden as I have cat fence-in.
I am in CA and we have long, dry summers here. My cats like to roll in the dirt and so get dusty in the summertime. They seem to take very good care of their bodies though.

I don't know that there is any limit on how many times you can wash your cat, but you might find that with minimal effort you can avoid most of the washing. I used to have one who LOVED to roll in dirt. Despite this we never had to wash her. WHY? Well, when she came home we would wipe her down with a damp paper towel. This took most of the heavy dirt off. As for the rest, she, like most cats, was very clean. They wash themselves regularly. As such any remaining dirt just came off in her regular bath. You might give this a try and see how it works for you.

After my cat rolls himself on the ground, I first "dust" him with a dry paper towel then wipe him down with a moist paper towel. I only give him a bath in the bath tub when he gets toooooo dirty, which is not very often. I'd say, altogether, I would give my cat a bath maybe 3 or 4 times a year. I avoid bathing him at night and in cold weather. Rule of thumb for cats is "Bathe only if you absolutely MUST."

I have never heard of washing a cat. They are very clean animals and see to themselves. I would check with your vet but I think it is actually harmful to their skin. I agree with the lady who says take the worst off wiping with a damp cloth and let the cat do the rest. Is this idea of washing a cat an American thing. We would never do it over here.

I've never had to wash my cats, but they are strictly indoors.
The strays that I take care of are extremely clean also, cats tend to take care of their hygiene needs on their own.
Unless Pepper gets into something like motor oil or grease or another product that could hurt her if licked, then I wouldn't worry about giving a bath. They hate it anyway, most of them.

It would be okay to do it once a month. If you feel like you need to do it twice then buy baby shampoo as it will be more gentle than anything else.
