I was going to take a turtle to church this weekend.

Thanks for warning me.

Perhaps I will take a ferret instead.

I would fine them a lot more than 100! Animals are not here to use for some weird religious service.

Because a woman recently died while handling a snake. I live in Kentucky and it was near my town.

Edit: it is amazing how many people think that Pentecostals handle snakes......that is NOT part of the pentecostal religion. It is holiness churches that do that.

Never heard of them using a turtle. I believe it was to get them to stop handling poisonous snakes. By the way FL is capturing & killing Burmese pythons right now. You might want to revise it & if a giant snake doesn't squeeze you to death......

My guess would be because some churches use snakes in their service.A snake...being a reptile...in religious service...would be illegal.I think that is what they are trying to eliminate. Some churches before have used poisonous snakes and people have been bitten and died from it.

I'm from Kentucky....

All states have wierd laws that were put in place either MANY years ago, or just really don't make sense.

It's also illegal to carry an ice cream cone in your pocket.

The reptile they refer to is SNAKES. There are some who handle snakes as part of their worship.

KY refers to this as the "Snake Handler Law." It's meant to prevent deaths due to snake bite during Pentacostal services.

Peace.
