It usually requires symptomatic care. Hydration is the most important aspect. If diarrhea is involved, Immodium can help. Benadryl does have anti-emetic properties and may help with any vomiting. Benadryl can be very sedating. As one improves, change your diet to full liquids such as creamy soups, ice cream, puddings and such. The next step would be a bland diet and then to graduate to a regular diet. If you localized abdominal pain with fever and chills, seek medical attention to rule out other illnesses. I hope you get better soon.

I had an old boss that swore by this -- warm jello water. I KNOW it sounds gross, but it works!! Take you favorite flavor, make according to directions and sip while still warm. I was so sick at work one day that he ran to the store and bought some (without me knowing, because I was leaving) and he brought me this and made me drink it. Within minutes, the nausea was gone and I had fluids in me.

the flu is a virus, and you can really only treat the symptoms. examples: antihistamines (benadryl/claritin) for runny nose, sneezing, etc. cough suppressant (dextromethorphan) for coughs. decongestants like pseudoephedrine and phenylephrine for congestion. and pain medicines like tylenol/napoxen/ibuprofen for headache. if you have stomach trouble use some pepto-bismol or other liquid antacids to soothe.
