This is certainly nice of you. Please pass along my gratitude. I hope that he might have registered it with your local clerk if not, go to http://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/get-service-records.html then you can request (DD214)on line at their web page; fax it or write them. If after you receive your DD214 you need awards and medals download a Form SF 180 Requests Pertaining to Military Records, http://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/replacement-medals.html complete it and send to one of the following:

Bureau of Naval Personnel (Navy, Coast guard and Marines)
Liaison Office Room 5409
9700 Page Avenue
St. Louis, MO 63132-5100

National Personnel Records Center (Air Force)
Air Force Reference Branch (NRPMF)
9700 Page Avenue
St. Louis, MO 63132-5100

National Personnel Records Center (Army)
Medals Section (NRPMA-M)

Best of luck. Thank-you and God Bless you and the Southern People.

To claim medals which never before have been issued, write to the medal office at the address below. The following information (or as much as possible) will be required:

Service Number, Regiment/Corps (Army/RM), Branch/Trade (RAF and RN), Full Name, Date of Birth, Rank and date of discharge, plus, of course, your current name and address. At the moment, the medal offices are unable to accept claims or queries by e-mail.

Armed Forces Personnel Administration Agency
Building 250
RAF Innsworth

If your father has lost the original medals, you might want to try to contact the army public relations and request from them the address of the re-strike building at a place called Droitwich, sorry that's all I know address wise. You can find out where your Father served and work out which campaign medals he is entitled to, the re-strikes cost a few quid but what a good thing to do for your Dad.......
