Thanksgiving is not a religious holiday. It comes from when the English colonized America and were taught by the Native Americans how to farm and harvest. It is more like being Thankful for a good harvest.
Religious individuals may very well choose to make Thanksgiving a holiday where they give thanks to their own particular god, but if you do not believe in a god, then you have every right to celebrate and be thankful for any number of things...

Thanksgiving is purely a nationalistic holiday celebrated only by Americans, just as Independence Day. The only reason people decided to be thankful to there christian God is because they are Christians. Even though this seems like a christian holiday, it is not, its just that the majority of Americans claim to be Christians. If you are an American, you are rightly entitled to celebrate this holiday with or without religious overtones. If you worship a God other than the christian God, you can celebrate Thanksgiving and be thankful to the God of your choice. If you are an atheist, and don't have faith in any God, then you can be thankful to yourself.
But remember, a God is someone or something that you serve, and we are all slaves to something.

I'm not an antheist and I think that's ok. I'm not really anything. We get the time off work, right? Its a national holiday, not particularly a religious one. The puritans were religious and so were the indians but so what? Their religions were different, just as your choice of "religion" is different from others. Whatever. Go eat turkey and take a nap!!!!!

Of course it is ok, To be honest Thanksgiving is my 2nd favorite holiday (my first being Talk Like a Pirate day) Because it's a holiday that involves FOOOD and lots of it AND then you get to pretend to watch football while in reality you are napping...makes for a good day!! Celebrate away honey! I will be!

Go ahead. But don't stop there. Celebrate Christmas and get your gifts, celebrate Easter and get you candy....
Of course this is all hypocritical which really shouldn't be a barrier for you because as long as you're having a great time what else matters, right?

Thanksgiving is an american holiday, and it is a holiday, because our founders were thankful for a good harvest, good friends, having their family healthy and together, and for the village and the american indians coming together to be with eachother. honestly, you don't have to be christian to take part in thanksgiving, or to be thankful for anything.

You may celebrate anything you want. National Potato Week is my favorite. We drink vodka and worship the Great Potato for a whole 7 days. We have orgys and build a giant Mr. Potato Head to worship.

well... then you are not really associating the holiday with the original intented meaning. you could be just celebrating for the cultural meaning of it: just getting together and being thankful for still breathing. I guess you CAN celebrate religious holidays without inputting the religious meaning in them, it wouldn't contradict your atheism because you are creating your own holiday meaning now.

Celebrate what you see fit to celebrate.
Thanksgiving is more of a secular holiday anyway. It is the time that we are thankful that our ordnance was more powerful than that of the natives who inhabited the this part of North America before Europeans showed up.

It is about being thankful for all you have. I do not think that Thanksgiving is a Christain holiday. Happy Thanksgiving to you.
