I have a friend stationed there and he gave me an address to send him things. I am going to send a package for the first time and noticed that the address is actually in Balad. I heard that you usually send things within the US, then they send it to Iraq. Can anyone tell me what's true? I just want to make sure that he didn't give me the wrong address to send things.

A standard US military address to deployed soldiers should be formatted as follows:

Soldier's Full Name (Rank if you know it)
Soldier's Unit or Task Force
APO, AE 09XXX

Camp name is left off for security reasons.

Your package will travel through USPS to New York, where it will be processed into the military mail system and routed to him. Each camp or FOB has it's own zip code, so the camp name is not necessary, and not actually recommended, as stated above.

"Iraq" or the name of the town should never appear on the box since the package could enter the international mail system and either be lost, or the soldier would have to go to an unsecured Iraqi post office to retrieve his package--not good!

You WILL need to fill out a customs form stating what you're mailing (NO pornography or pork products, just to name two). From a normal post office, you will pay a "domestic" rate, since the mail never leaves the American mail system, though it may be a littler higher than mailing something to another state because of the distance. And yes, if you live near a military post and know someone with a valid ID card, they can mail it for free (as long as you don't want it insured) through the Military Postal System.

I would check with him again before you send anything. Most service men and women receive mail through an APO box. It is also much cheaper to send a package within the states and have the miltiary deliver it. My brother in law was stationed there, and that's what we did. At the bottom of the address he gave you, there should be something that says APO, and an American zip code

Send in a flat rate box ($8.10) from the USPS. It should be an APOE address. That is used as a US shipping address and then it goes out of the country to military.
You can stuff as much as you can in this box for one low flat rate. That is the best way to go.

delivery to an APO is comparable to delivery to an usa tackle. the main inexpensive direction could be to do a Flat fee container, it extremely is one value for any weight. you may get the boxes unfastened on the submit place of work.
