Hmmm... that's an interesting question! There are varying ways to look at this. For instance, look to the breed of dog/cat, as a poodle-owner evokes a different image from that of a toy or rottweiler owner. An orange tabby vs someone with a purebred Persian. A person may have a goldfish bowl or keep a complicated arrangement of tropicals.
Pets can undoubtedly be a reflection of their owner, but also how well (or poorly) a person treats that pet even more so. Personally, I regard myself to be an animal lover, and happily have a menagerie of cats, dogs, and a fish. Usually I like to keep a two by two balance, but the fish is as yet single! I guess that means I like em all, but actually kitties are my favorites. (Love to have a horse and llama, too!)
If a person has a well-loved pet - I think it's a good sign.

I think the type of dog you "like" or actually fall in love with and adopt....reflects your character and your intelligence. The pretty little fluffy dogs...kind of to me..reflect =ditzy blonde types...because they are all about beauty and perfectionism. The big, labs and such are manly dogs, and reflect =sporty, outdoors, women and men. Thus, results in dogs equalling character. Cats are strictly,...a different breed. Someone that owns a cat, doesn't necessarily need to give affection, because
NO cat likes that. Thus resulting in...not as much care, yet a live being in their presence. Now, reptiles...reflect to me...to belong to college types, guys/gals with piercings...and goth types...haha, maybe I'm a little overbearing, but I think this applies. Fish on the other hand reflect, soft, loving individuals that like the constant flow of the puration filters plus the movement of the fish, smooth and comforting....= a very mellow human being. Is this what you wanted to know? If not, it's just thoughts....enjoy.

Dog people seem to be more enthusiastic and outgoing, cat people tend to be more mellow and self-contented. I don't know about fish or reptiles - a guy I knew that had a lot of snakes was a very different sort . . .

My cats constantly talk about me but in guarded whispers and almost always behind my back! When I come into the room they both get this kind of dreamy, slightly cross-eyed look on their faces and act as if nothing's going on.
It's only first thing in the morning that I know exactly what they're saying: it's "hurry up with that can opener, woman, we're starving...can't you move any faster!?! Oh no, tuna again! What an idiot!"
