Assuming that you are a male who may find her interesting ,my best guess is that her initial smile was more done in courtesy more than a personal interest in you. As she sees you again, her lack of smile may a way to keep from giving a false impression that she is actually very interested. She may possibly actually be interested, but also very shy to show more than that first spontaneous smile. If you see her again and the opportunity arises, politely make some very minor chit-chat and see how she responds. If you are also a female, it was probably just courtesy the first time and now she is just be giving a sign that she's not really interested in getting to know you. These are just guesses and ideas based on what might cause me to act the way that you describe her.

Did you do something to creep her out? Float an air biscuit in the elevator? Perhaps she simply does not want to encourage contact for some reason that we can only assume... and assume that it has nothing to do with you.

Probably because she wakes up every morning to heavy breathing and your smiling face for a split second before she blinks and you disappear. You're creeping her out.

Shes shy. Make random conversation with her. It will work. Trust me. Breath Mints are a good idea. Don't have one in when you talk to her though.
