A coworker wants to make a jewel-tone quilt and needs color guidance. Anyone know where to find some sort of chart that categorizes jewel tones, pastels, neons, etc?

You know, I don't think there's anything on the net that has color charts like this. Believe me, I've been looking. The closest thing that I can find is balloon colors, and they really aren't all that accurate. Click the first link to see for yourself.

There is a website that has color palettes created by users that could be very helpful in choosing fabrics for quilting, but there's only one that has a "jewel tones" tag, and it isn't really jewel tones. Still, it's a good resource for other color schemes, so I've included a link. (I added a couple of links to pages within this site - scroll down on the third link to "Easter Melody" - that's a good pastel scheme. On the fourth link, scroll to "UV Colors" for a decent neon scheme. The fifth link has a scheme that is sort of jewel-ish. Scroll to "Color-Zot.")

The best I can suggest for a guide for "jewel tone" is to think about actual jewels - ruby, sapphire, emerald, topaz, amethyst - these are the colors we refer to as jewel tones. Jewel tones are general medium to deep, clear (rather than grayed or browned) colors. They're often used with black, since it sets off the colors so well. Think traditional Amish quilts.

I swatch all my polishes on color wheels too. I use ones i bought on ebay, make sure you get the white ones, not clear (clear will take tons of coats to show up) You can get a bunch for super cheap.
