totally agree with you as there are classics I watch over and over again. such as The African Queen, Pillow Talk, Lover, Come Back, I Married A Witch, White Christmas, Holiday Inn, McLintock, etc.

I think we should allow the holy spirit to guide us. When I am watching a movie, if anything comes on the screen that is not pleasing to God...there is no question, because I can feel the spirit in me, it's like I have to turn my head away or turn off the TV. I am not telling anyone else what to do.....but for myself, it's clear to me what I should be watching and what I should not be watching.
People in bed together in movies embarrasses me. And that means, even when I'm in my apartment alone watching it! What is the difference between watching fornication and reading about it? Nothing. I'm speaking for myself. I have noticed lately that God wants to "clean house" with me....and is putting my feet on a very narrow path. Fine with me, I do not want to be doing anything displeasing to him.

Yes, The Holy Spirit must guide you in watching these things. When you think about it though, the entire Bible is one big love story between God and his Church. The story of Esther is so beautiful and Judith and what about the story of David and Bathsheba? That had everything in it -- betrayal, sex, violence, love, romance, redemption. God, who is the author of all love including human love does not have a problem with it. Our little puny minds though that operate with the shadow of sin can not fathom the extent that love has been fashioned in our life by God. All beautiful love songs even have been inspired by God. All beauty everywhere is of God.

I'm not against a true "romance" movie. However, most movies these days would have been considered pornographic when I was a kid. "Midnight Cowboy" got an X when I was young; it would be PG-13 now. What does that tell you?
Peace.

Personally I think it's because they give way to fantasy and lust. Romance movies are almost never about husbands and wives. Just premarital sex.

Because so-called "romance movies" are really "sex movies" - and they portray fornication.

It depends. Is it nice romance or does it have racy scenes?

You just have to be careful. Bad associations spoil good habits.
