It is far from incompetence.
Bush and Chaney are making a killing off of the war and the more they drag it out the more money they make.

They weren't! The Bush administration not only has fought the toughest war ever in History (i.e. instant news, Internet...) but we are helping a Country that does not even want to help themselves. Half of the American Politicians are practically traitors by doing nothing other than putting up road blocks for the Americans to secure a Country that was in desperate need of our help.

Hey, Bush is already doing what the terrorists wants him to do: Starting a costly war, which gives them opportunities to inflict losses on the americans.

I think you over play their role. Funny how the Army commander who run the show skate by. It is the commanders in the field who failed to supervise Abu Grab. It was the Commanders in the field who did not properly train rear area troops like Jessica Lynch's Maint. company. The day to day logistics needs of a division is the responiblity of the Divison Supply chain, not the Sec Def. If you Don't like how things were done? Start at Lt Gen. Sanchez before you start throwing stones at DC. If he needed stuff they gave it to him.

It depends on your perspective on whether they were incompetent or not.
If the objective was to get control of the oil, that's been accomplished so it wasn't incompetent, just clumsy.
If you look at it from the point of view on how well they hoodwinked the American people especially the religious groups, then again, they did quite a good job. He got in for a second term, didn't he?

None of them had the courage to go to war when they were young. Thus lack of on-the-ground experience coupled with a life-long yellow streak.
