Save the bottle from the washing machine, thats what i do, then throw it away!

If you're desprate down the toliet followed by lots of washing up liquid!

I cannot beleive how many people throw it down the sink! THATS WHAT NOT TO DO!!!!!!!

You should ask your local council/government, and ask about their oil disposal facilities if you want the cleanest option. From the other answers I guess no-one cares too much, so just tip it down the sink with some washing up liquid and lots of hot water. Contrary to other comments, it can build up on the pipes and the drain, as I found out when I had to clean mine - its about the worst smell in the world.

I tip mine out at the bottom of the garden, but you could pour the new oil into a pot, empty the old oil into the container and then seal it and put it in the bin and use the new oil !
Good luck !

Hiya,
I normally pour the old oil into a jug and when i clean and refill the fryer, pour the old oil into the empty container from the new oil and chuck it in the bin, all sealed and smell free!

A lot of people want this oil. The bio diesel people want oil like yours for converting to diesel for their cars.

A friend of mine is in the business of teaching people how to make their own diesel from waste cooking oil restaurants throw away.

I would post a sign on the front of the shop saying you will give away to anyone who comes and picks it up.

I never knew this either, so I just fill up my sink with hot water, add a cup of Tide powder or dishwashing powder then tump the oil into it.. It sort of dissipates in the soapy powder.. then rinse it all down the drain.. .. I guess if anyone has a better idea, they will post, but this has worked for me and not clogged up the drain.

You should NEVER put used oil down the sink. It will solidify in the pipes if not in your sink then further into the sewage system. It costs water companies a fortune to clear up which means we all pay more in water rates. Put it into an old oil bottle and put it into the rubbish. I'm not sure whether you can compost it but if you can that's the best solution.

I put the used oil back in the container it came in, (sealed tightly so it won't leak) and dispose of it in the garbage. Large amounts of oil should be taken to a recycle facility. No amount of oil should ever be put into drains. It will clog them and cause backups.
