I got a tattoo a week and a half ago. All of the scabs have just about fallen off. Now that I can see the tattoo underneath, it looks sort of dull. The tattoo is in between my shoulders on my back. I didn't wash it off after I got it. I just let it dry out, and put some Curel lotion on it. I haven't soaked in a bath or hot tub or anything like that. It looks like it has healed properly, just dull. I am definitly going to get it touched up. I have other tattoos, this is the only one that has done this. It did seem like the skin on my back bled more than in other areas, could that have something to do with it?

Several things could have made this happen. For one you could still have some dead skin on the tattoo and surrounding area making it look dull. Two- You said you didn't wash it off and let it dry out, this isn't proper tattoo care and you could have caused it to loose more ink than necessary. Three- The artist may not have tattooed deep enough into the skin. Four- If you bled more on this tattoo than any other you may have just bled out a lot of the ink.
Just curious- You said you have other tattoos and this is the only one that turned out like this... Did you have all the tattoos done by the same artist? Good rule of thumb, once you find an artist that you like or has done a good job try to keep the same artist. This way if things like this happen it is easier to narrow down the reasons as to how it happened. Go back to the artist that gave you the tat. Most artists guarantee their work and he/she should touch up the tat for free. Good Luck and next time, make sure you follow all the after care directions. :)

You are going to loose a little bit in bleeding and scabbing. Plus it is hard for the artist to see every little spot they missed when doing it as there is blood and ink that smears on the skin covering up thos little spots. Any shop should offer a free touch-up after it is done. If not they don't stand by their work and don't ever go back... I have 4 tattos all by the same artist and everyone required some touch up. even if it was just a tiny spot they did it for free. Just call them and say you think it needs it. They won't do it until it is fully healed so no less than a month soetimes even up to 3. And they should be more than happy to do it for you.
Just keep putting cream on it everyday a few times a day not just for a week but up to 2 or 3 even. and after showers.
You're not supposed to let it dry out.

Well firt of all. If a tattoo is properly taken care of, it won't scab. I have 9 tattoos and none of them scabed. The scabs pull color out of the tat. You'll just have to have it retouched. But for future reference, right after you get a new tat. go home and hope into a nice warm shower. use only antibacterial, non-scented soap. and put a triple antibiotic ointment on it after letting it air dry(or gently patting it w/ a papper towel) But make sure you don't use too much ointment, your tattoo have to be able to breathe. so use just enough to cover it. and if you're as obsessive about your tats looking nice as i am, then wash and put ointment on about 4 times a day. :) I promise you'll have a nice looking tat afterwards with no need for touch-ups.

Some folks don't take ink well. And scabbing will very well draw the ink out. So if your prone to scabbing, you may never take ink well.
I bled very little, therefore didn't scab with my tattoos. Skin peeled about a week after wards. Now my X, though it wasn't much, where ever he had a scab the color was absent.

you should wash it, but too late now...it doesnt make much difference....tattoos are not as bright as the colors in the bottle, especially if you went to a cheap artist that uses cheap ink....It could have been because of the bleeding, but I would check if the artist you went to this time used a cheaper brand of ink....You get what you pay for

profuse bleeding definitely could have something to do with it. i hope that your touchup will heal better. if you can, try to avoid any type of pain medicine or blood thinner for a few days before your tattoos as well as drinking alcohol. maybe you'll bleed less.

I have several tattoos, and I was always told to keep them moist with vasoline or neosporin. That way, the color set more, and the scabs didn't form as quickly.
