I want to tell my boyfriend of 5 months that i love him, but i know that he can be skitterish around moving quickly because of some past pain.
I know that he cares for me, but i don't want to tell him how i feel only to scare him when i could hold it in for a bit.
Any signs that i could look for to know that he's ready to hear it?

Before someone says something like 'if he looks at you a lot in class' we are not in highschool we are both in our mid 20's.
Thank you!

Oh and yes i realize that 5 months is not a long time.

FF - why do you wonder that? Simply because most people confuse the two really doesn't mean anything, no i didn't list a million traits of why i care about him but that's not imperitive for my question.

Just tell him you love him! Make sure to let him know that you understand he has some anxiety about moving quickly and that you respect going slow. He might not say it back which can prove an akward situation but he'll know that he's deeply cared for. =-)

sounds like me! except i'm a sophomore! Go for it. just tell him, and if he's ready for that kind of committment, he'll prolly tell you the same thing! My xbf and i went out for six months. it was about the fifth month that i wanted to tell him i loved him, but because i was scared he wouldn't feel the same way, i didn't tell him, and now it's too late. since he broke up with three weeks ago, i can't help feeling that if i had just told him, he wouldn't have left me! i'm still debating on whether to tell him after the fact or not...Sorry for the life story... just tell him, and take a chance. so many ppl are misunderstood. just tell him you love him!

I think that you should wait.It seems like everytime you say i love you to a guy and they say it back you fall deeper and deeper in love with him........ask some questions to see where he's at in life..like how many kids he wants or tell him about a "dream" you had and say something like you had a dream that you guys were married and had two kids and you were at a soccer game cheering them on,and see what his reaction to that is first......don't put yourself on the line right now, when your unsure.Plus when your saying i love you, either one of two things happen, your relationship is never the same because he pulls away because he knows that you love him,or your relationship is never the same because he loves you too,and he wants to plan a future with you.........and if he wants to plan a future with you, you'll know. You'll feel it when he looks at you,and kisses you.

I read somewhere once that the girl should never say it first...cause you just might scare him..and since your concerned about scaring him just wait for now. Maybe in a joking non serious fashion when he does something funny laugh and be like 'hee hee i love you ..'...so that way he can take it serious and respond if he wants but it won't be in a scarey..honey I'm in love with you fashion...then again if he doesn't respond at all then your back to square one.

It is possible to love him within five months. I told my boyfriend of one month that I love him and he said the same. We ended up getting married a few years later and have seven children. Just tell him how you feel and go from there.

Just say it. Life is too short to be spent wondering. Perhaps he loves you and is scared to say it for the same reason. Like I said, life is too short. TELL HIM YOU LOVE HIM :)
