It's rediculous to censor your hug for other people. It's also rediculous to measure how close to someone you are when you hug them and how much of them you touch. If you want to hug someone, just do it.

It really depends on who you are hugging, and the reason for the hug. When hugging my nieces or nephews, it is no holds barred - I hug them, spin them around, give them wet sloppy cheek kisses, etc. But I would never do that with my sister or brother! With them, it is a little hug with a peck on the cheek (brothers only on the peck). Same with my parents and other relatives.

With my significant other, I'm not afraid of PDA, although it is unwelcome in front of some people. I try to be considerate of others and where I am, that usually dictates how much of a hug it is. But I love my man and I can't help but hug him in a way that shows him that I love him, even if it is not a super long hug, it is always a deep hug.

It really all depends on your personal taste. It is perfectly okay to say "no" to a hug if you are not comfortable. I hope this helps.

Do you mean between friends? A gentle hug, arms only, bodies don't touch, is fine.

Do you mean with your significant other? A gentle full body hug that lasts only a second or two is fine. Overly demonstrative PDA (Public Display of Affection) is best saved for private.

Depends who you are:

European/French Canadian: side kiss on both cheeks with hands lightly on elbows or shoulders.

Canadian/American: hand-shake, light kiss on the cheek

some Asians: light bow

Conservative/prudish: polite hello with no physical contact

Horny teenager: tight squeeze with arms and legs of female wrapped around torso of male

cell mates: two hands on hips of the male in front of you while he is bending over to pick up dropped object.

Proper hugging etiquette? I dunno, don't squeeze their azz?

You hug friends and not strangers you just met. If that good enough?
