The Wikipedia-article on the Norwegian language is rather good. In addition, try the Norwegian Language council-homepage for more information (English optional) www.sprakrad.no .

As a teacher of Norwegian for foreigners (Germans), I have found that the free learning programs offered on the Internet are often of mediocre and dubious quality. The only exception may be the links included below.

In my experience, it takes approximately six to ten months to achieve an intermediate level of Norwegian - written and orally. However, this duration may be shorter resp. longer depending upon how much effort you are willing to provide.

In addition, bear in mind that Norway has two official written languages - Neo-Norwegian, which is based upon dialects found especially around the western coastal region of Norway; and Dano-Norwegian which is derived from Danish. Also, there is a great diversity of dialects that can make learning Norwegian troublesome as the written words do not correspond to the spoken (A foreigner learning Dano-Norwegian might encounter hardships comprehending what people from Bergen and Trondheim are saying during conversation).

Whatever you choose - good luck and have fun.

Hello my buddy. I comprehend what you imply. Listening to yet another language is way more complicated than studying it for the reason that while you learn you spot each letter and each syllable of each phrase. When we English audio system talk, and principally after we sing, we don't take care to cautiously enunciate every phrase and pronounce every syllable more commonly, so the phenomenon you're experiencing is truly. Even as I say that, I could advocate that you simply pay attention extra intently for the reason that despite the fact that we try to pronounce the entire phrase, we usually "swallow" quantities, so I name the quantities that you do not pay attention or do not heal good ample, swallowed syllables. Most folks say ev'ry (each), cam'ra(digicam), lab'ratory (laboratory). We flip plenty of t's that seem within the core of phrases into d's, for illustration, ledder (letter) and we make the contraction wanna from wish to (the 2 t's are completely swallowed on this illustration). In time, as you pay attention extra carefully, you're going to pay attention plenty of the endings. The are swallowed for the reason that of laziness or simply the loss of emphasizing all syllables similarly. Incidentaly, the t in pay attention is silent. (if I say silent in a lazy method, you're going to now not pay attention the t on the finish and if I say result in a tender method you're going to now not pay attention the d on the finish. I wish this is helping.
