Rip out the linoleum. Thats easier than trying to get all the glue off. Especially if you want to put something that nice over it. You wouldnt want to spend all that time on the floor and it still have imperfections from the old glue.

It can be....and very time consuming. Call in a professional to clean up the mess.
If you want to do it yourself you may first test the glue to see if it is water based. If it is get yourself a scrapper a bucket of water, knee pads and get to work....
If it is not water based you will have to go get some other solvent, paint thinner might work at a reasonable price. Again get to work.
Heat will always take off glue but always so messy.....You may just want to pull the floor up and put down something different all together......
Good luck, laying carpet is always easier then removing it...

Have you tried Goo-gone or some type of solvent? Another suggestion instead of painting the harlequin pattern with the glue a problem, make the pattern with individual colored tiles either ceramic or vinyl.

Maybe you could rent a floor sander (Home Depot or Lowes usually rent them for a reasonable price). The person who rents it to you should be able to give you a short lesson. Remember to wear a face mask. This seems like the quickest, easiest way to remove the glue.

Try pulling up the linoleum.

Yes it is (going to be a pain).
Most things that can be fully enjoyed are.
You will love it if you do the work yourself.
Scrape away my friend, and remember, you have the rest of your life to enjoy your accomplishment!!

pretty much... you will have to get a paint scraper and scrape it, it may be bad glue and it comes off easily.

For the real hard stuff you can use a torch to soften up the area, then scrape, scrape, scrape.
