because they are really cheap and to buy one or two tea bags would cost less than a penny each so they need to put them in large quantities so they can charge a decent amount for them!

I buy the 80 packs of PG...but I drink 3-4 cups a day.

I'm a tea addict for sure so those larger packs are great when you guzzle hot tea all day long. Not so much if you don't drink a lot. Try freezing the rest if you're worried about it going stale.

The actual answer stems from the 40 hour working week ie 1 brew per hour (goes back a fair way) which is why teabags are only sold in muliples of 40

It all stemmed from the good old days before teabags. Using a teaspoon of tea leaves per person you got X amount of cups per box. So when they invented tea bags they kept to the same amount of cups approx per box.

The manufacturers are clever adult males. they start up with 50 & one hundred g packs. After some time they strengthen the fee! while they want extra earnings and are not waiting to strengthen the fee so quickly they decrease the %. length. same way they could have began to marketplace with one hundred luggage in A Carton and are available right down to 80.
