I've been going to Church for only a couple weeks and I have questions--

Why does God as Jesus pray to God? Is He asking Himself?

Did God as Jesus go to Hell for 3 days before ascending to Heaven?

Probably more to come.

God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are a very difficult concept for people to understand. A priest is your best choice for that. Jesus is a part of God. He is God incarnate as his Son. A separate physical being but still God. He died taking on the sins of the world. He went to "hell" or whatever everyone calls it then arose after 3 days. Something to think about is that there is no way to heaven except through Jesus. Those who died before Jesus were still "asleep" as they use in Orthodox and not in heaven since Jesus was not there yet to sacrifice himself for their sins. So when Jesus arose he took all his believers that were "asleep" to heaven at that time.

Jesus is God, yes, but He's God the Son. He's praying to God the Father. They are individuals yet one.

Jesus descended into hell before he ascended into heaven.

Yes your first answer just about covers your question, and any more questions you may have.
So maybe I can save you spending a lot of points here, the answer to all your questions are
" Just have faith and believe"
Were you expecting some 'logical' answers?
All the answers you need are in th Bible, (preferably the New Testament) or else where on the net.
Or better still why not ask your new church leader, thats what he is there for to guide you, isnt it?
If you ever do get a logical answer from anywhere please let me know, I would be very interested also.
Hope Christians dont think this answer is' impolite', or 'abusive'.
or do you??

Jesus prays to the Father, because the father is God to, remember the triune god, the fathe the son and the holy spirit, each are seperate but they all are one God. Yes Jesus, as God decended into hell, and on the third day he rose again.

no problem with asking intelligent questions, feel free to ask as many as you wish.

No, he didnt go to Hell, but that is a common belief in some religions, but not heavily supported in the Bible.

The first question is a little more confusing. Okay, first you have to understand, if your learning God and Jesus are one, you will see Jesus was a part of God, like an egg yolk is PART of an egg, or your MIND is part of you. He was PART of God, but not the whole God. The Bible tells us noone living can look on God, so he was PART of him, not all of him.

So accepting that, we know part of God, God the father, was still in heaven, and prayer was his way of communicating with his dad, kinda like picking up the phone and calling him.

Email me if youd like, Its hard to explain it all here.

Good luck to you too! I know I had a hard time with this stuff when I started into church too.

Mav had those questions too

Mav don't think too deep about the first one, the triune is waaaay to deep for Mav's little head, and she doesn't think God will mind if Mav doesn't get it.

Question 2, Mav has been told that Jesus decended to death, (some say hell) fought eternal death, burst open those doors and came back.

Probably better if you talk to you Pastor about these - way too many man-made theories out here.

The Trinity is three distinct person in one God. It is a mystery that you will not understand. You just have to have faith and believe.

After Jesus died He retrieved the souls of the faithful who died before Him and bring them to Heaven. It was not actually Hell, but a waiting place for those who died before Jesus opened the gates of Heaven.

God bless,
Stanbo

The Trinity is three persons in one, so yes technically He was speaking to Himself, and Yes, Jesus went to Sheol (hell) for 3 days to defeat it and to defeat death and to bring up those that were faithful, if you think about it, it makes sense, we had to die because we all broke God's law so He decided to sacrifice Himself, but in order for Him to die for us He had to become a man (but at the same time He was still God) He then had to live the live that Adam was seposed to live, and then He had to take the Sins of every man, woman and child, and so He could not enter into heaven, but sense He sacrifised Himself and He is God He defeated death and hell and now He is, as He was and is to be, enthroned in heaven.
